Meet the team: Heather.
We thought we would take a moment to actually introduce ourselves, if you’ve read these blogs you might see names or the odd photo but not know much about us. Or similarly for if you follow our social medias (Instagram: @AchievementAcademyGROUP, Twitter: @AcademyGROUPva) and might not know who’s behind the posts. So here’s a little about me and my experiences.
My names Heather and you can find me on Instagram: @HeatherStewart_VA or Twitter: @HeatherSt_VA and currently I work part-time at the Vision Achievement Academy, specifically the marketing and social media branding. This has lead me to explore graphic design further and I have really enjoyed creating banners and flyers as nothing beats creating something and getting to physically see it in-front of you!
My background currently is in Design as I am studying a Masters in Design right now (2021/2022) focussing on event design, marketing and branding, as well as commercial interiors. Before this I completed a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design and a Diploma in Art and Design, so you can see why I focus on what I do!
Alongside this I also have had experience in being a carer and various other jobs/voluntary activities such as the Girl Guiding Association, working in a charity shop, participating in research events and even speaking at a national conference. This mix of activities, I feel, is very important and have all been super beneficial for working in this job, because not only do I sit and create content but I also get to engage with customers and clients. I have attended networking events and of course we have our free online seminars which cover a range of topics and one thing for sure I can say is this role is ever developing and not only am I part of a team and company who help mentor and coach people to build on skills but we are also developing and learning new skills. Even writing these blogs posts, it’s a chance to be creative and focus on one task.
Going through the education system is very useful as a lot of our content is catered to people in the exact same position as myself or where I have only just been in the last year or so. We are working to help bridge the gap from education to employment as I know first hand how intimidating it can be as you suddenly leave school/ college/ university and are just left to find a job?! Easier said than done. We are working to eradicate this loneliness and to build your confidence as you apply for jobs and follow through to your first days, weeks, months and even years through your career.
That’s my ‘official’ things done. Alongside work and education I enjoy photography (you might see my photos on our social media every now and again!) and also dance and dance some more, which I have done for over 15 years now- ballet, tap, jazz, commercial, contemporary… You name it I’ve probably danced it. Another aspect I bring to this team is understanding what life is like living with chronic illnesses, often you may need the extra confidence boost or have questions about how a career might work if you’ve had to miss school days or have that little extra anxiety about the future. (Also a reason why our online events and courses online work so well for me). It can be a tough time changing career or starting a new one, which is why we are here to be a stepping stone and support network as you lose the mentors from education we can help you grow and develop further.
As always if you have any questions about the Academy you can message us on our website, via social media or email email@example.com. I hope this has helped you get to know me a bit better and you look forward to hearing from my colleagues over the next few weeks.
Look forward to hearing from you! Heather.
